Triumph of the Virgin or Small Thesis : frontispiece , 1625.

Represented are three groups of allegorical figures honoring the Virgin dedicated to Duke Charles IV and Duchess Nicole of Lorraine. The frontispiece for a thesis was commissioned by novitiate monks of Nancy, André de l'Ange and Etienne Didelot.

Israël Silvestre (1621-1691) était le fils du peintre nancéien Gilles Silvestre. Son maître fut Israël Henriet, ami et éditeur de Jacques Callot. De 1640 à 1653, Israël Silvestre voyagea en France et en Italie. Il dessina et grava pour Louis XIV les Maisons royales, ainsi que les Fêtes données et les Places conquises sous son règne.
